Farcowax has a long history, in fact, the earliest records that can be found today date back to the mid-1940s, then under the company name Farco A/S. In the beginning, it was solely trading in Farcolina® Special Modelling Wax for rehabilitation and training in occupational therapy.
Later, under the name A/S O. Vilsøe Thyssen, the company produced and sold hospital products in the form of a product called Hiozon. Hiozon was available as a hand lotion and soap, both of which were disinfectant. At the same time, Hiozon baby powder, baby shampoo, baby soap, and baby ointment were manufactured. Furthermore, Danalet nappy liners were produced, which were used in Danish hospitals in maternity wards.
Alongside the hospital products, a product called Modelér Kavs was manufactured, which today could probably be compared to ceramics. The only difference was that Kavs was a product that came in powder form, which had to be mixed with water, after which it could be shaped as one wished. Kavs gradually became stiffer after about 20 minutes, and after about an hour of no touching, one could paint directly on the Kavs. This product was sold as a children's product for play.
From the mid-1940s until the mid-1970s, all products and company names were owned by Ove Vilsöet-Thyssen. Birgit Guldfeldt Sørensen and her husband, Mogens Kjeld Sørensen, subsequently joined the company. In 1984, Birgit and Mogens took over the company under the name Chemia 100%. Operations continued under this name for a number of years, after which the various hospital products were phased out.
As described above, Farcolina® was initially produced and sold solely to the healthcare sector, which used our special modelling clay for rehabilitation purposes. It was particularly arthritis patients who benefited from the product, as the modelling clay's appropriate hardness and reusability made it easy to mould in the hands. It assisted patients with rehabilitation after injuries or when minimising general soreness.
Over the years, much has happened in the healthcare sector, with new and improved methods being adopted for the rehabilitation of patients with arthritis, among others. In the meantime, many other industries have seen the benefits of our special modelling wax. Today, Farcolina® in its original form is used in industries such as the fibreglass industry and for the production of sinks and worktops in the casting process, where our special modelling wax ensures a softer rounding in the form of a radius. Additionally, Farcolina® is used in the pharmaceutical industry to seal pipettes with blood samples or for other medical purposes, as well as by a growing number of artists, who use the product for the development of statue prototypes.
In the mid-2010s, Birgit and Mogens’ children, Jens and Susanne Guldfedt, took over the company, continuing to run it until 2023.
In 2023, Chemia was acquired by Jens Guldfeldt's son, Mikkel Guldfeldt, and his wife, Millie Guldfeldt. Today, we are working to carry the company forward in the same good spirit as before. We have a strong desire to further develop the use of our special modelling clay, Farcolina®, and to discover which other industries can benefit from the same excellent product.
From 01/01-2025, the company changed its name from Chemia to Farcowax. This was part of the overall transformation the company has been and is undergoing in recent years. And to better position ourselves in the market, as well as to make clear to current and future customers what interests and products the company actually operates with. Please give a warm welcome to our new name, Farcowax.
