We understand that many questions may arise when you're holding a new product. Especially a product you've never worked with or encountered before. Below, we answer the most frequently asked questions. If you still have any unanswered questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Farcolina® is currently sold to medical manufacturers who use Farcolina® to seal/plug pipettes containing, for example, blood samples. Furthermore, it is sold to companies that produce and mould countertops and sinks, where Farcolina is applied around the edges to form a radius and a softer edge to the worktop. In recent years, there has also been a growing number of artists and stonemasons who use the modelling wax to create prototypes before final casting or stone carving. Therefore, the answer is that Farcolina is a multi-product that can be used for many things across various industries.
Farcolina® is a Danish-produced modelling clay which mainly consists of 4 different wax types: paraffin, microcrystalline wax, beeswax, and a binding wax called emulsifier, petroleum jelly, and pure chalk powder. Our standard modelling clay consists of white dioxide pigment colour. If the modelling clay is desired in a special colour, it will not consist of the white dioxide pigment colour but rather a different type of pigment to give the product the correct colour.
Over the years, Farcolina® has proven to be extremely resistant to water and other more or less liquid products, due to its high composition of different types of waxes and petroleum jelly. Therefore, our modelling clay is used today for sealing, as well as for productions where the product comes into contact with different types of liquid materials that it should not mix with, but rather repel, to seal or form a specific structure.
Farcolina® is a relatively hard modelling wax. However, if a softer consistency is desired, it can be worked in the hands, where after a few minutes it will become softer and more pliable to work with. Alternatively, warming it in 40-50 degree Celsius warm water for a couple of minutes will also make it softer. Artists, in particular, warm it lightly before beginning their work, after which it becomes more pliable to use. After some time, the modelling wax will become firmer and return to its original consistency.
No. That's the short answer. Farcolina® has been produced by Farcowax for over 70 years, and we have modelling clay from the very early days, which can still be moulded into a soft and pliable structure to this day.
Yes, Farcolina® is today reused by many of our customers. Artists who create prototypes of sculptures, in particular, reuse the modelling wax in most cases. However, if you are a manufacturer where purity and sterility must be maintained, you should discard used Farcolina® after use.
Farcolina®, as described above, is a product that repels water and other liquid materials. This is why it is difficult to remove if it gets onto clothing and other textiles. When working with the product in your hands, you will feel a greasy surface on your hands, which can be easily washed off with soap and water. The product has a mild scent of pure petroleum jelly.
No gloves are needed. We have customers who have worked with the product in their hands every day for many years, with nothing but wonderfully soft hands as the product consists of large parts of pure Vaseline. Several of the ingredients in Farcolina® are marked with an ‘ECO Passport’, which means that direct contact with the skin is not dangerous or harmful to health. However, if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, we recommend gloves.
Farcolina® is best stored in cooler surroundings, at a maximum of room temperature and out of direct sunlight. We have experienced customers who have stored the product either too warm or in direct sunlight, where it begins to become greasier. So, a good rule of thumb is to store it in the dark and at a maximum of room temperature.
